“Reinventing school means focusing on authentic learning and equity and harnessing the knowledge of human development, learning, and effective teaching accumulated over the last century and needed for the next.” - Linda Darling Hammond, Learning Policy Institute

Research on the benefit of games for learning has led to an explosion in the educational gaming industry of fun and informative games. How can we harness gameplay to lead authentic 21st-century learning in classrooms?

Well-designed games—unlike competitive multiple-choice quiz games—provide immersive experiences for students. Like novels, films, plays, and other media, teachers can use high-quality tools like games to help students access the curriculum while keeping engagement high. The “fun” of gameplay is a core component of why games are so successful with children, according to educators. Games can help children develop important, yet difficult, skills that they would otherwise avoid.

Join a conversation about how gameplay transforms students from passive consumers of content to active creators of new knowledge.
